Interactive projections, newly invented instruments, motion-responsive art, and giant, immersive sculpture come together in the Brandon's one-night only art/music hybrid event: Crasis. Think of a Simon™ game the size of a room or a musical sequencer built out of a ceiling fan-- art that you can influence with your movements or an installation that swallows the building. These elements, along with musical performances by local innovators, will create an evening exploring the intersections of art and technology.
Crasis is will feature a performance by James Templeton (LIMB) of an original composition he wrote for two instruments he invented and built himself (which were featured in a recent TEDxHouston talk); interactive video projections by Roberto Perez (FLCON FCKER); installations by the art collaborative {exurb}, by Eric Todd, Erick Calderon and Mara McCumber (Light Art Interactive) and Stephen Farris; video installations by Jonathan Jindra and Bryan Traylor; a site-specific sculpture by Patrick Renner (artist responsible for the Funnel Tunnel), and live music by Roger Sellers, LIMB, FLCON FCKER, Stephen Farris, and Eric Todd.
The word "crasis" describes “a type of contraction in which two vowels merge into one, making one word from two.” The spirit of merging ideas has inspired this gathering of some of our favorite creative minds from different disciplines who don’t always work, perform, or create together to take part in an event that will be equal parts live music, visual art, and tech carnival and all spectacle with something to view, experience, or activate in every part of the building--inside and out.
Roger Sellers is an Austin favorite who has toured with such nationally acclaimed acts as Ghostland Observatory and was recently a featured artist at FunFunFun Fest. His fourth album 8 Songs was released on Pau Wau Records in December 2012.

Patrick Renner is a Houston visual artist who has most recently found acclaim with his 180 foot public sculpture in Montrose: Funnel Tunnel. He has taught art at HSPVA and started the art program at the International High School at Sharpstown, where he and his students won the Mayor's Cup prize in the Houston Art Car Parade in 2011.

James Templeton is musician who has been touring for the last few years under the name, LIMB. A one man show, James uses vibration sensors to control digital electronics (synths, samples, etc.) creating a unique digital/analog hybrid sound that is both subtle and aggressive. He has performed for TEDxHouston and is currently writing a ballet with Houston Ballet principal dancer Connor Walsh.

{exurb} is a Houston tech-art collective whose large-scale, often interactive installation work has been shown at El Rincon Social, Free Press Summer Fest, the University of Indianapolis, and the Brandon curator’s former space, the Joanna.

Stephen Farris first garnered international attention with his 2011 album Cosmic Sound that he released on VHS tape, knitting together home movies and other found footage to create a fitting visual companion to his nostalgic audio environments. He has released three albums since then, most recently the EP Fluctuate in 2013.

FLCON FCKER is a biochemist, HPMA award winning musician, and burgeoning visual artist who builds custom synthesizers, designs his own audio and video software for his unique electronic, part improv, part dystopian future live performances in which he wears mirror-masks and manipulates infrared images of the audience and bathes large groups of people in hypnotic sound.

Jonathan Jindra is a video artist, electronic musician from Houston, TX. He works as a part of Ten West Digital Media, LLC creating music videos and non-profit promotionals. Jindra’s video art has been showcased at Alice Tully Hall in the Lincoln Center, Art League Houston, The Darke Gallery, El Rincon Social, The International Society for Improvised Music. He was named one of 2011′s top 100 creative artists by Houston Press and was nominated for a 2012 Houston Press Music Award Experimental/Noise in Houston.

Brian Traylor is an experimental small-gauge filmmaker and live cinema artist who emphasizes in installation and live performance based media. Born in Dayton, Ohio he received his BFM in Film from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2004 and currently lives in Houston, Texas.

Eric Todd has written for the Rockets' ESPN Affiliate Red94.net, served as an associate editor of the literary journal NANO Fiction, and founded, with Patrick Renner, the art collective {exurb}. He is currently working on his second album which is set to be released in the summer of 2014.
